WaterCycle Alliance to deliver new water treatment plants for the Gold Coast
A ground breaking initiative to improve water conservation on the Gold Coast
The ‘WaterCycle’ Alliance, comprising JWP and partners United Group Infrastructure (UGI) and Australian Water Services (AWS), has been commissioned by Gold Coast Water to design, construct and commission the Pimpama wastewater and recycled water plants as part of the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Project.
The Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Project is a ground breaking initiative of Gold Coast City Council to service a major growth precinct in the northern part of the city. Its principal aim is to reduce potable water consumption by up to 84% through an integrated water cycle management approach encompassing water supply, wastewater, recycled water and stormwater.
The Package A Alliance covers the provision of a 17 ML/d wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and a 9 ML/d Class A+ recycled water treatment plant (RWTP) as the first stage of a three stage plant development to an ultimate capacity of 51 ML/d. The WWTP is to be available to accept wastewater for treatment by November 2007 with the RWTP being operational by March 2008.
Whilst the technology is proven on small and medium scale this is the first major combination of WWTP and RWTP in Queensland. The WWTP is designed for 17 ML/d average dry weather flow with 9 ML/d passing via the RWTP into a third pipe system. As part of the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Alliance which also covers wastewater collection and recycled water distribution, JWP’s activities must integrate with the overall program and wider team and stakeholders.
